Card Details
Mana CostCharacter Background
Grim Haruspex is a classic value engine for black decks that plan to trade creatures aggressively and keep the cards flowing. In Commander, it best supports sacrifice, aristocrats, and grindy midrange shells, where every nontoken creature death becomes a cantrip-like reward that refuels your hand and keeps pressure on the table. Its morph ability adds subtle resilience: you can deploy it face down early to hide your real threat density, then turn it up later when you’re ready to cash in on death triggers. The best synergy is with repeatable sacrifice outlets and creatures that replace themselves on death, such as those that make tokens, drain life, or return from the graveyard, since Grim Haruspex only cares about nontoken creatures you control dying. Pair it with fetchable sac fodder, recursion, and board wipes you can break parity with, and it becomes a steady source of card advantage rather than a one-shot payoff.
