Card Details
Mana CostCharacter Background
Nissa, Ascended Animist is at her best in green midrange and ramp shells that can convert mana into a threat immediately while also threatening long-game dominance. The compleated cost gives flexibility: you can pay life to land her earlier, but doing so makes the first token smaller, so in slower matchups it is often correct to pay full green mana and protect her loyalty. Her +1 snowballs quickly, turning Nissa herself into a scaling threat generator, and that makes proliferation, extra loyalty support, or simple board protection especially appealing. The −1 is excellent main-deck interaction against problem artifacts and enchantments, which helps green decks answer effects they normally struggle with. Her ultimate strongly rewards heavy Forest counts, so mono-green or Forest-dense builds with cards that search basics, like Rampant Growth effects, can end games fast. Thematically, she feels like a plane-shaping force turned inward, and in play she rewards patience, board presence, and mana advantage.
