Mana CostCharacter Background
Geological Appraiser is a clean value creature that fits best in tempo or midrange shells, especially decks that can keep pressure on while turning a four-mana play into immediate card advantage. A 3/2 for {2}{R}{R} is already serviceable, but the real draw is discover 3 on entry if you cast it, which can effectively replace itself with a spell from the top of your library or generate a free spell to swing the board. The Ixalan setting gives it a fitting “field researcher” feel: an artificer cracking open ancient layers and extracting something useful from below. In gameplay, it rewards building with a low curve and a high density of impactful three-mana cards, such as removal, burn, or cheap interaction, so the discover hit stays live and flexible. It also pairs well with topdeck manipulation and blink effects if available, since repeatable enter-the-battlefield triggers turn it into a steady source of momentum and card flow.
