Character Background
Forgotten Ancient is a quintessential value engine in Magic: The Gathering, and in Dominaria Remastered it shines brightest in midrange and counter-focused builds that want to turn every spell on the table into permanent board growth. As a 0/3 for four mana, it starts modestly, but in multiplayer or spell-dense games it quickly becomes enormous, accumulating +1/+1 counters whenever anyone casts anything. The real strength, though, is flexibility: at the beginning of your upkeep, you can redistribute those counters to other creatures, effectively stockpiling power on a resilient body before converting it into threats, evasive attackers, or combat tricks. It pairs especially well with proliferate cards, token strategies, and creatures with counter synergies like Hardened Scales-style effects, since extra counters amplify both the Ancient and the team. In practice, it rewards patience, table awareness, and a deck built to keep casting spells while turning incremental growth into a decisive board advantage.
