Oracle Text
Reveal the top five cards of your library. An opponent separates those cards into two piles. Put one pile into your hand and the other into your graveyard.
Card Details
Mana CostCharacter Background
Fact or Fiction is a quintessential control and value card, turning a simple instant into a mini mind game that often generates a real card advantage swing. In play, you reveal the top five cards, then force an opponent to split them into two piles, which means you get to pressure their judgment while still converting the best half into hand and the rest into graveyard resources. That graveyard placement is especially important: decks built around flashback, delve, reanimation, recursion, or threshold-style payoffs love this effect because “loss” is often just setup. In Commander, it plays beautifully in blue shells that want to hold up interaction, then refuel at end step without tapping out. A strong deckbuilding tip is to pair it with graveyard-using threats or spells so even the pile you don’t choose still advances your game plan. It is at its best when you can make every card from the top five matter.
