Damnable Pact
Oracle Text
Target player draws X cards and loses X life.
Card Details
Mana CostCharacter Background
Damnable Pact is a clean, dangerous bargain that fits best in control, combo, and big-mana black decks, where spending a pile of mana at sorcery speed is less a liability and more a plan. The card’s strength is flexibility: in a pinch, X can be small to refill your hand and stabilize, but in the late game it becomes a lethal drain spell pointed at any player, including yourself if you have a life-total cushion or a payoff for losing life. It pairs especially well with life-gain engines, lifelink blockers, or effects like Vilis, Broker of Blood that reward you for life loss, turning the drawback into advantage. In Commander, it also plays nicely with recursion and mana amplification from Cabal Coffers, Crypt Ghast, or similar production, letting black decks convert excess mana into cards while pressuring the table with an ominous, Faustian bargain.
