Mana CostCharacter Background
Blood Lust from Fourth Edition is a neat slice of red’s reckless philosophy: power first, consequences later. In gameplay terms, it best supports an aggressive tempo plan, letting you spend just two mana to turn an attack into a lethal swing or to punch through a blocker that would otherwise trade unfavorably. The card’s scaling text means it is at its best against small- to medium-sized creatures, where the toughness reduction can effectively erase a blocker while boosting your own attacker’s damage. Against a 5-toughness creature, the fixed +4/-4 mode still creates a strong combat trick or removal play, though it is not true unconditional removal. It pairs well with first strike, trample, and creatures already close to lethal damage, and it shines in decks that curve out low and want to keep combat open. In limited, it rewards careful board assessment and punishes opponents who stabilize with one big defender.
